Routine testing for lanolin allergy using 30% wool wax alcohols confirms the findings of European workers that lanolin allergy will frequently go undetected if plain lanolin is used for patch testing. Detection of lanolin allergy requires patch testing with a lanolin fraction and confirmation of positive tests by repeat testing. At present, 30% wool wax alcohols in petrolatum appears to be the patch-test material of choice for the detection of lanolin allergy.
