Summary. A Fabry-Perot spectrometer has been used at Arecibo, Puerto Rico, for measurement of the Doppler line width of [O I] 6300-A emission in the night airglow. The temperature of the nighttime F region was obtained simultaneously from this technique and from analysis of data from incoherent scatter radar. In a series of experiments the two methods gave results that agree to within ±15% rms. This agreement is closer than that usually obtained when incoherent scatter and satellite measurements of temperature are compared.
