The effects of afterglow, ultraviolet radiation, and heat from an electric glow discharge on wool felting shrinkage, yarn strength, and grafting of polymers have been investigated. Under the conditions of treatment, heat and ultraviolet radiation have little or no effect on wool felting shrinkage and yarn strength. Ultraviolet radiation is effective for initi ating polymer grafting onto wool. Afterglow, like glow discharge, can make wool yarn shrink resistant and stronger and can induce grafting of polymer.
