Haircut posterior leaflet-plasty simplifies robotic mitral valve repair by shortening P2 and preserving annular continuity.
The "Haircut" posterior leaflet-plasty is described as a simplified technique for robotic mitral valve repair that preserves annular leaflet continuity and restores leaflet support.
May aid complex robotic posterior repairs; leaves open need for outcome validation before adoption.
Robotic mitral valve repairs of the posterior leaflet can be difficult, especially when a very large P2 segment exists. The repair described in this chapter is a simplification technique we call a “Haircut” posterior leaflet-plasty. The advantages are preservation of annular leaflet continuity, shortening P2 (height reduction), resection of flail segment portions, and restoration of leaflet support either with existing or transposed chords. This method helps a great deal when performing a posterior leaflet robotic mitral repair.

W. Randolph Chitwood (2015) studied Mitral valve disease. Haircut posterior leaflet-plasty was evaluated. The 'Haircut' posterior leaflet-plasty is a simplification technique for robotic mitral valve repair that preserves annular continuity, shortens P2, and restores leaflet support.
