Two cases of brucellosis are reviewed, which were the only ones in their respective groups of travellers on the one hand to acquire the infection, and on the other hand to have been on antacid medication. The theory of the gastric acidity's protective action is revived and the too generous prescription of antacids for travellers to subtropical and tropical regions is discouraged.
