Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/hydroxyapatite (HAp) composite fibres were obtained using femur pork bone as a precursor. The fibres were prepared by the electrospinning technique using as a vehicle a solution of PVA at 10 and 15% weight. Scanning electron microscope images showed that the average diameter of the PVA fibre and PVA/HAp composite fibres does not change significantly. Using PVA (10% wt), composite fibres of cylindrical shape with a small quantity of HAp could be observed. However, an increase in PVA content to 15% wt produces higher suspension and larger amounts of HAp particles incorporated into the composite fibre. The composite fibres were characterised through X‐ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. Some of the advantages of obtaining HAp composite fibres using pork bone by electrospinning are quick production, economy, and the non‐use of chemical precursors in its production.
