High surgical mortality urges individualized preoperative risk assessment; leaves open optimal management strategies pending larger series.
Case Report (n=7)
Congenital aortic valve disease with free aortic regurgitation can cause rupture of mitral chordae tendineae, presenting as acute mitral regurgitation with severe pulmonary edema and carrying a high surgical mortality.
Joseph et al. (1976) conducted a case report in Congenital aortic valve disease with rupture of mitral chordae tendineae (n=7). Surgical treatment was evaluated on Mortality. Surgical treatment of congenital aortic valve disease with ruptured mitral chordae tendineae was associated with a high mortality rate of 70% (5 out of 7 patients).
