Provides preclinical proof-of-concept for CXCR4 imaging post-MI; leaves open human translation and clinical utility.
Effect estimate: >5-fold increase
A novel 99mTc-labeled SDF-1alpha radiotracer can successfully quantify the significant upregulation of CXCR4 expression in the myocardium following myocardial infarction in vivo.
Misra et al. (2008) studied Myocardial infarction. [99mTc-MAS3]-SDF-1alpha radiotracer vs. Baseline (before MI) was evaluated on CXCR4 expression levels in the myocardium (>5-fold increase). After experimentally induced myocardial infarction in rats, CXCR4 expression levels in the myocardium increased more than 5-fold as quantified using the [99mTc-MAS3]-SDF-1alpha radiotracer.
