Nicardipine fails to inhibit store-operated Ca2+ current in canine pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells.
Why the study?
Does nicardipine inhibit capacitative calcium entry in canine pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells?
Does nicardipine inhibit capacitative calcium entry in canine pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells?
Nicardipine does not inhibit capacitative calcium entry in canine pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells, suggesting voltage-dependent calcium channels do not mediate this pathway.
Does not support nicardipine for store-operated Ca2+ entry; leaves open voltage-independent pathways in pulmonary vasculature.

Yeom et al. (2003) studied Pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cell physiology. Nicardipine vs. Absence of nicardipine was evaluated on Store-operated Ca2+ current (ISOC). In canine pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells, the depletion of intracellular Ca2+ stores leads to the activation of store-operated Ca2+ current, which is not inhibited by nicardipine.
