Historically, ERP systems evolved from systems which are designed to manage a production facility's orders, production plans and inventories. ERP systems integrate inventory data with financial, sales and human resources data allowing organizations to prior their produce financial statements and manage resources of people, material and money. Like all computer-based information systems, multisite ERP implementations can be analyzed in terms of levels or layers. At each level there are different choices to make and different criteria for evaluating the alternatives. Therefore organizations are generally advice to start planning multisite ERP implementations at the strategic level before proceeding to the technical levels. One of the first issues arising in a multisite ERP implementation is that of scope. It is important for several reasons. There are natural ways to configure ERP systems and manage multisite ERP implementation projects.
