Key result
CNP infusion increases natriuresis but requires a higher renal response threshold than ANP.
Why the study?
Does CNP infusion affect renal and vascular functions differently from ANP in healthy men?

CNP's weaker renal potency in healthy volunteers cautions against therapeutic substitution for ANP; leaves open its paracrine or disease-specific actions.
Does CNP infusion affect renal and vascular functions differently from ANP in healthy men?
CNP has a higher threshold for renal response than ANP and likely does not act as an endocrine factor in humans.
Pham et al. (1997) studied Healthy volunteers (n=8). C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) vs. Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) was evaluated on Renal and vascular actions (natriuresis, fractional excretion of sodium, diuresis, renal plasma flow, glomerular filtration rate). C-type natriuretic peptide infusion caused dose-dependent increases in natriuresis but demonstrated a higher threshold of renal response compared to atrial natriuretic peptide in healthy men.
