The authors state that the differential diagnosis of this syndrome includes hereditary and acquired aplastic anemia, preleukemia, and systemic lupus erythematosus. We describe a patient with reversible drug-related thromocytopenia showing selective absence of marrow megakaryocytes. An 80-year-old white man had several costal fractures as a result of thoracic traumatism. As an analgesic a commercial combination of oxyphenbutazone and acetaminophen (paracetamol) was prescribed. The patient received it continously for 20 days...References1.
