Poor knowledge of the laws relating to sex and of the social rules governing sexual behaviour may contribute to a putative vulnerability to sexual offending among men with mental handicaps. A pilot group which involved providing education in these areas for men with mild mental handicaps and histories of sexual offending and also, in some cases, sexual victimisation is described. Details of the materials used and the sessions are given. Gaps in knowledge and inappropriate attitudes were identified among the participants. The limitations of the group and its positive aspects in providing a forum in which the men could begin to share their sexual difficulties are discussed.
