Experimental validation demonstrates 95.32% efficiency and high voltage gain in a single-switch DC-DC converter, suggesting improved power management for fuel cell electric vehicles.
A quadratic ultra‑high‑gain DC‑DC converter (QUHGC) using a single switch employing switched inductor technique is proposed for fuel cell electric vehicles in this article. The proposed QUHGC gives ultra‑high gain with fewer components. It also has lower voltage stress across the semiconductor devices. Continuity of the source current, higher effectiveness index, common ground and positive output voltage are added features of the converter. Steady‑state analysis of the converter is done in continuous conduction mode (CCM). The efficacy of the QUHGC is shown by comparing with other topologies in terms of voltage gain, number of components, maximum value of voltage stress across switch and diode and the value of the voltage gain for duty ratio of 0.5. Hardware prototype of 100 W is designed and practical results confirm theoretical analysis with efficiency of 95.32%. The results show that the proposed QUHGC has ultra‑high gain, lower voltage stress across switch and diodes, continuous source current, common grounding, positive output voltage and higher effectiveness index and it is more suitable for fuel cell electric vehicle applications.
