RESEARCH is no longer a new word in the nurse's vocabulary and the research process itself is no longer considered to be completely in the realm of the experts. All nurses, including students and especially those in baccalaureate programs, are intimately involved in the process, whether or not they recognize it as such. In preparing to become nurses, students are helped to develop many qualities, among which is intellectual curiosity. They learn ways of thinking about a problem, using the problem-solving approach, i.e., they learn to identify a problem, define it, express “hunches,” collect data, interpret findings, evaluate, and report.
