Azevêdo et al. (2011) studied Pain perception (n=28). Total and REM sleep deprivation vs. Control was evaluated on Laser-evoked potential (LEP) threshold and visual analogue scale (VAS) ratings. Total sleep deprivation for 2 nights significantly increased both the laser-evoked potential threshold and visual analogue scale pain ratings, whereas selective REM sleep deprivation had no significant effect.
