The interpretation of the EPR spectrum suggests two alternative models: five gold atoms or three gold atoms with two boron atoms, respectively, form a cluster occupying lattice sites and adjacent interstitial sites. This cluster tends to further precipitation. Both of the paramagnetic gold‐related centres – that with one gold atom and the cluster – are assumed to belong to the group of acceptor levels in Si:Au.
