Fusion imaging and 3D ICE facilitate precise intraprocedural guidance for transcatheter valvular interventions.
Why the study?
Rapid progress in transcatheter valvular interventions has driven the development of innovative imaging technologies for comprehensive and precise intraprocedural guidance.
This review highlights the role of novel imaging technologies, such as fusion imaging and 3D intracardiac echocardiography, in guiding complex transcatheter valvular interventions.
Supports advanced imaging in transcatheter valvular interventions; leaves open need for prospective randomized validation.
Transcatheter valvular interventions have undergone significant progress over the last years with novel treatment options in even complex valvular conditions. In conjunction with this development, innovative technologies have emerged to facilitate a comprehensive and precise imaging for optimal procedural guidance. These imaging novelties include fusion imaging, three-dimensional (3D) intracardiac echocardiography, and advanced and refined 3D echocardiography rendering tools. The present review provides an overview of these novel imaging tools in transcatheter valvular interventions with a focus on intraprocedural imaging. Abbreviations 3D: Three-dimensional; ICE: Intracardiac echocardiography; TEE: Transesophageal echocardiography; CT: Computed tomography; CMR: Cardiac magnetic resonance tomography; TAVR: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement; MPR: Multiplanar reconstruction; TMVR: Transcatheter mitral valve replacement; PVL: Paravalvular leak

Hell et al. (2020) conducted a review in Valvular conditions. Novel imaging techniques (fusion imaging, 3D intracardiac echocardiography, advanced 3D echocardiography rendering tools) was evaluated. Novel imaging techniques, including fusion imaging and 3D intracardiac echocardiography, facilitate comprehensive and precise intraprocedural guidance for transcatheter valvular interventions.
