Goswami et al. (1984) studied Vaccinia virus infection. Interferon was evaluated on Synthesis of 2-5A and degradation of rRNA. Interferon treatment of vaccinia virus-infected mouse L cells resulted in the synthesis of 2-5A oligonucleotides and degradation of rRNA, suggesting a mechanism for its antiviral action.
