D‐C electroluminescence in II–VI films is still in its infancy and could become of great technical importance if the problem of efficient hole injection in the absence of p‐n homojunctions can be solved, which is possible through systematic efforts. A survey is given of the existing methods of hole injection and of the available materials combinations. Their advantages and short‐comings are listed, and as a conclusion a new method is proposed.
