Does vasopressin compared to epinephrine affect postresuscitation left ventricular function and survival in a swine model of prolonged ventricular fibrillation?
In a swine model of prolonged ventricular fibrillation, vasopressin during CPR worsens early postresuscitation left ventricular function compared to epinephrine but does not compromise 24-hour survival.
These swine data should not alter clinical vasopressor choice during CPR; they leave open V1-receptor effects on post-arrest LV recovery.

Kern et al. (2004) conducted an RCT in Ventricular fibrillation (n=48). Vasopressin vs. Epinephrine was evaluated on 24-hr survival (vasopressin antagonist vs vasopressin alone) (p=<.05). Vasopressin during CPR caused worse early left ventricular function than epinephrine, and adding a V-1 antagonist decreased 24-hour survival compared to vasopressin alone (18.8% vs 62.5%; p<0.05).
