The versatility and synthetic potential of the novel tris-acetonitrile-substituted cluster Ru 3 (CO) 9 (MeCN) 3 ( 3 ) for the formation of ruthenaboranes in unprecedently high yields are illustrated. Reaction of 3 with [Me 4 N][B 3 H 8 ] yields HRu 3 (CO) 9 B 2 H 5 (65%) and with BH 3 ·THF yields HRu 6 B(CO) 17 (60%).
