The experiments described show that if a positive film is printed from an x-ray negative, the change in the transparency of the former can be made directly proportional, over an extended range, to the intensity of the original x-ray beam. The transmitted light can therefore give the integrated x-ray value of a patch of non-uniform blackening without the necessity of a two-dimensional point-by-point integration. The application of this principle to x-ray analysis of crystal structure is discussed.
