Methodology study demonstrates precision measurement of gas-induced deformation in nanoporous adsorbents, suggesting robust structural monitoring across extreme temperatures and pressures.
A macroscopic dilatometric method is proposed to measure the deformation of nanoporous materials induced by the adsorption of gases and vapors within absolute pressures from 0.01 Pa to 10 MPa and temperatures from 200 to 600 K. The method is used for granular and monoblock nanoporous materials, namely adsorbents and catalysts, with a pore size of less than 100 nm. The confidence interval to assess the magnitude of linear deformation of a nanoporous adsorbent granule is ±5 × 10–7 m. The measurement uncertainty of the relative linear deformation of an adsorbent was 2.0%, and the expanded uncertainty at a confidence level of 95% was 6.0%.
