The indentation of vulcanized rubber sheets of various thicknesses by rigid spherical indentors has been examined experimentally for a variety of conditions. The results are shown to fit a modified form of the expression derived by Hertz from classical elasticity theory for the indentation of a ball into a semi-infinite elastic medium.
