Electrically deformable diffraction grating using a piezoelectric material

A new electrically deformable diffraction (EDD) grating is proposed and is theoretically evaluated, based on the sawtooth corrugation model for a reflection surface. This is successfully demonstrated at the visible region by using an EDD grating consisting of a piezoelectric PZT ceramic and an inter-digital electrode on its surface. Application feasibilities of our grating are also discussed toward optoelectronic devices.
