Continuous wave Doppler ultrasound yields just 1 false negative compared to carotid arteriography.
Why the study?
Does a two-stage ultrasound approach accurately detect occlusive arterial disease at the carotid bifurcation compared to carotid arteriography in patients undergoing arteriography?
Observational (n=20)

A two-stage noninvasive ultrasound approach demonstrates high accuracy for detecting operable disease at the carotid bifurcation compared to invasive arteriography.
Lewis et al. (1980) conducted an observational in Occlusive arterial disease at the carotid bifurcation (n=20). Continuous wave Doppler-shift ultrasound with spectral analysis and imaging vs. Contrast carotid arteriography was evaluated on Diagnostic accuracy compared to carotid arteriography. Continuous wave Doppler-shift ultrasound with spectral analysis and imaging yielded no false positives and one false negative in 20 comparisons with carotid arteriography.
