Carbon nanodots (CNDs) synthesized from Carica papaya seeds (CP-CNDs) and used for the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) and microbial load reduction from wastewater (simulated sample water). This research showed a sustainable method for producing highly effective photocatalyst for the photo-degradation of organic dyes and efficient microbial load removal from wastewater treatment. The as synthesized CP-CNDs have been characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), high resolution scanning electron microscopy (HR-SEM), measurements, UV–Vis spectroscopy techniques. Carbon nanodots synthesized from Carica papaya seed have a higher antibacterial activity than other photocatalysts because of higher surface area and higher number of reactive sites of the nanodots. Then, under exposure to visible light, the photocatalytic actions of CP-CNDs appear to contain sustained degradation of MB aqueous dye. All these properties make the CP-CNDs an efficient and potential candidate for efficient degradation of methylene blue and microbial load reduction from waste water.
