Racemic 11‐oxo‐18‐hydroxy‐cortexone (X, XI) has been prepared. It differs from aldosterone (II a, b) by interchanged oxidation levels of the substituents at C‐11 and C‐18. Infrared analysis and the rate of the tetrazolium blue reaction showed that the new compound exists in the form of the cyclic hemiketal XI.
