The application of the Varian Aerograph Chromatography Data System 200 to a variety of non-rountine samples is described. Samples include normal paraffins, C5–C15 alpha olefins, cresols, herbicides, hydrocarbon gas mixtures, and trace analysis of impurities in iso-octane and ethylene. Performance with flame ionization, helium and remote thermal conductivity detectors is described. The tangent method of peak separation was applied to trace analysis. Simultaneous multichannel analyses and post analysis interaction are shown to be valuable techniques for method development and data interpretation. This study indicates that GC-computer systems for research and development laboratories need to be more accurate and flexible than systems for routine use and should offer techniques for method development and data interpretation.
