Key result
Unusual G9P[4] genotype accounts for ~92% of Rotavirus A samples in hospitalized Indonesian children.
Why the study?
To understand how dynamic changes in Rotavirus A genotypes occur in Indonesia following shifts from equine-like G3 to typical human G1 and G3 strains.
Observational (n=356)
G9P[4] DS-1-like strains emerged as the predominant Rotavirus A genotype in Indonesia in 2021, suggesting intra-reassortment with other circulating strains.

G9P[4] emergence warrants enhanced rotavirus surveillance in Indonesia; leaves open effects on vaccine performance and severity.
Dinana et al. (2024) conducted an observational in Rotavirus A infection (n=356). Rotavirus A genotypes was evaluated on Rotavirus A genotype distribution. Among 26 Rotavirus A-positive samples from hospitalized children in Indonesia, 24 were identified as the unusual G9P[4] genotype, which emerged as the predominant strain in 2021.
