Six weeks of antibiotics linked to stable masses and no recurrent strokes in caseous mitral calcification.
Why the study?
Caseous calcification of the mitral annulus is an extremely rare variant of mitral annulus calcification that can act as a source of embolic strokes and a nidus for infective endocarditis.
Case Report (n=1)
Caseous calcification of the mitral annulus is a rare predisposing factor for embolic strokes and infective endocarditis that can be managed medically in high-risk surgical patients.

Hypothesis-generating for antibiotics in embolic CCMA; single case leaves open any practice change pending controlled data.
Naser et al. (2022) conducted a case report in Caseous calcification of the mitral annulus (n=1). Antibiotics was evaluated on Recurrent clinical strokes and stability of mitral masses. A 6-week course of antibiotics in a patient with caseous calcification of the mitral annulus resulted in stable mitral masses and no recurrent clinical strokes at 4 months of follow-up.
