SummaryAfter a short review of the Guillain-Barre syndrome a case is described : a few days after a zosterian eruption in the left fifth lumbar dermatome, a 72 years old woman developed the principal characteristics of that syndrome : flabby, curable paraplegy, pain, slight sensitive disturbances, albumino-cytologic dissociation. It was a severe form with disorders of the sphincters, psychic confusion and postural hypotension. Five months later the patient retained only a palsy limited to the territory primarily affected by the zosterian virus.A review of the literature of motor complications of herpes zoster reveals but one case where herpes zoster is associated with symptoms of Guillain-Barre syndrome. The relations between both diseases are discussed. Authors think that the Guillain-Barre syndrome could here be the result of a special reaction of the patient to the zosterian virus.
