Updated 2016 echocardiography guidelines simplify LVDD diagnosis and guide HFpEF management.
This review summarizes the diagnostic criteria and management recommendations for left ventricular diastolic dysfunction and heart failure with preserved or moderately reduced ejection fraction.
May streamline LVDD assessment in HFpEF; leaves open prospective outcome validation of the 2016 algorithm.
Chronic heart failure (CHF) is one of the most common, severe and prognostically unfavorable complications of cardiovascular diseases. The author of the article considers in detail the developmental factors of the diastolic function of the left ventricle, its diagnostic criteria, the importance of echocardiographic research to assess the severity of diastolic dysfunction in patients with a reduced and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction. Based on the general recommendations of international experts there are provided recommendations for managing patients with heart failure and preserved / moderately reduced left ventricular ejection fraction.

Kinoshenko et al. (2017) conducted a review in Diastolic dysfunction and chronic heart failure. Echocardiographic evaluation and management was evaluated. Echocardiographic evaluation using updated 2016 guidelines provides a simplified algorithm for diagnosing left ventricular diastolic dysfunction and guiding management of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
