Magnetic moments and Curie temperatures of several series of metallic glass alloys are presented and analyzed. A model emphasizing the effect of the local environment is used to explain the data. A few conventional assumptions about the density of states permit a more detailed explanation and strongly suggest that charge is transferred from the metalloid atoms to the transition metal atoms. The amount of charge transferred is determined quantitatively for boron and phosphorus in various alloys.
