Faraday rotation and magnetooptical polar Kerr effect are studied in γ‐Ln2S3 crystals. The peculiarities of the magnetooptical spectra in Ln2S3 are interpreted on the basis of the regularities of f–f and f–d transitions in free Ln3+ ions taking into account the mixing of the excited localized and band states.
