Elevated LADI and NT-proBNP in NIDCM linked to ~27-fold higher cardiac event risk.
Why the study?
Do NT-ProBNP and left atrial dimension index predict adverse cardiac events in patients with non-ischemic advanced dilated cardiomyopathy?

Do NT-ProBNP and left atrial dimension index predict adverse cardiac events in patients with non-ischemic advanced dilated cardiomyopathy?
Hazard Ratio: 27.2 (95% CI 3.2–233.7)
p-value: p=0.003
Elevated NT-ProBNP and increased left atrial dimension index provide significant incremental prognostic value over conventional risk factors for predicting cardiac death and heart failure readmission in non-ischemic advanced dilated cardiomyopathy.
Supports incremental prognostication with NT-ProBNP and LA index in non-ischemic DCM; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation.

Kim et al. (2008) conducted a cohort in Non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (n=105). Elevated NT-ProBNP and Left Atrial Dimension Index (LADI) vs. Patients without elevated NT-ProBNP and LADI was evaluated on Composite of cardiac death and rehospitalization for worsening of CHF (HR 27.2, 95% CI 3.2-233.7, p=0.003). Patients with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy who had both an increased left atrial dimension index and elevated NT-ProBNP level had a 27-fold higher risk of cardiac events compared to those without these risk factors.
