Review demonstrates the electrochemical viability of polyoxometalate-based anodes for lithium-ion batteries, highlighting material design strategies to enhance multielectron energy storage.
As a kind of high‐performance energy storage device, lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) can effectively promote energy conversion. Developing high‐performance and low‐cost electrode materials is a feasible strategy to improve energy conversion efficiency. Polyoxometalates (POMs) feature the reversible multielectron redox property, excellent thermodynamic and chemical stabilities, adjustable sizes and definite structures, resulting in their broad application prospects in the domain of energy storage. This paper reviews the important applications of POMs and their derivatives as anodes for LIBs and systematically summarizes the synthesis, modification and electrochemical performance of single POMs anodes, organically functionalized POMs anodes, POM‐based metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) anodes and POM‐based nanocomposite anodes. Meanwhile, the structure‐activity relationship of POM‐based materials as anodes for LIBs are discussed. Finally, the application prospects of POM‐based materials in LIBs are looked forward to promote their new progresses.
