For pt.I see ibid., vol.15, p.1243 (1982). The effect of quenching and aging of TLD-100 crystals on the thermoluminescence and on (Mg 2+ V - ) pair clustering has been studied at several temperatures. The authors find that the model that associates TL peak 2 with (Mg 2+ V - ) pairs and peak 5 with (Mg 2+ V - ) 3 trimers is unacceptable. A new model is proposed in which some impurity other than Mg 2+ is the peak 2 trap. They postulate that Ti 4+ associated with O 2 - , OH - ions and or vacancies, which they call Ti*, is the peak 2 trap, and that the peak 5 trap is a combination of (Mg 2+ V - ) pairs and the peak 2 trap, which they label Ti*(Mg 2+ V - ) n . Previous models including the Z-centre model of Nink and Kos (1976) for the trapping of peaks 2 and 5 are at variance with these results.
