Although proven as a method for the formation of monocyclic compounds in the last few years, the diastereoselectivity of the ring closing metathesis reaction has hardly been investigated. Bicyclic dienes which contain a mirror plane of symmetry can now be efficiently prepared in a diastereoselective fashion by ring-closing metathesis reactions (see scheme; PMP=p-methoxyphenyl).
