Liver cancer is one of the most common malignancies with the sixth highest incidence rate and the second highest mortality among the death spectrum of cancers worldwide. Most often, liver cancer patients are usually in their advanced stages that have lost the chance of surgical resection upon the diagnosis. Precision treatment is a newly emerging concept for the treatment of human diseases with accuracy and efficacy by using patient information at genomic and proteomic levels. Based on clinical characteristics and mutant status of driver gene, the disease may be divided into different categories that can be individually studied by using a specific therapeutic target, therefore, formulating a reasonably and efficiently personalized treatment strategy. This review is mainly focused on the most recent progress on the precision treatment of advanced liver cancer, especially on the strategies based on the disease-related mutant genes and current status of the targeted drugs used in clinical precision treatment in liver cancer.
