Echo detects PAH in ~95% of moderate-to-severe COPD patients, demonstrating higher sensitivity than ECG.

ECG and echo screening may aid early PH/RV dysfunction detection in COPD; leaves open impact on outcomes in prospective studies.
Rachakonda et al. (2016) conducted an observational in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) (n=103). Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease was evaluated on Prevalence of pulmonary arterial hypertension and right ventricular hypertrophy by echocardiography. Echocardiography detected pulmonary arterial hypertension in 94.84% and right ventricular hypertrophy in 26.82% of patients with moderate to very severe COPD, demonstrating higher sensitivity than ECG.
