Sexual issues are an important aspect of comprehensive rehabilitation, but negative staff attitudes or lack of training in sexuality may prevent these issues from being addressed. Methods of identifying and changing negative attitudes are described. Among the strategies available for preparing staff to integrate sexual content into comprehensive rehabilitation are institutional sexuality committees, sexuality program development, and continuing inservice education. The role of staff in sexual rehabilitation varies, depending on the severity of the patient's injury and the stage of recovery. Guidelines for appropriate staff roles are detailed.
