Sirolimus-eluting stent demonstrates no delayed restenosis at 18 months on angiography and IVUS.
Why the study?
Although sustained suppression of neointimal proliferation 12 months after sirolimus-eluting stent implantation was reported, longer-term imaging at 18 months had not been documented.
Does sirolimus-eluting stent implantation prevent delayed restenosis at 18 months?

Does sirolimus-eluting stent implantation prevent delayed restenosis at 18 months?
This early report demonstrates sustained suppression of neointimal proliferation and no delayed restenosis at 18 months following sirolimus-eluting stent implantation.
Case-level data suggest durable sirolimus-eluting stent patency at 18 months; hypothesis-generating and should not change practice.
Sirolimus‐eluting stent is emerging as a potential solution for the prevention of restenosis. Recently, a sustained suppression of neointimal proliferation 12 months after implantation of this stent was reported. This is the first report of angiographic and IVUS images 18 months after the implantation of a sirolimus‐eluting stent. Cathet Cardiovasc Intervent 2002;57:65–68.

Tanabe et al. (2002) conducted a case report in Restenosis. Sirolimus-eluting stent was evaluated on Delayed restenosis on angiographic and IVUS images. Implantation of a sirolimus-eluting stent demonstrated no delayed restenosis on angiographic and IVUS images at 18 months.
