To evaluate short-term functional and anatomical outcomes of subthreshold microsecond-pulsed 520-nm laser in acute central serous chorioretinopathy and explore baseline optical coherence tomography biomarkers as response predictors.
Retrospective, consecutive, interventional case series of 14 eyes in 14 patients with acute central serous chorioretinopathy (symptom duration ≤ 12 weeks) treated with subthreshold microsecond-pulsed 520-nm laser at a single referral center.
Evaluated central subfield thickness and best-corrected visual acuity at baseline and 30 days, alongside baseline optical coherence tomography structural features including external limiting membrane and ellipsoid zone integrity, photoreceptor outer segment elongation, and subfoveal choroidal thickness.
Mean central subfield thickness decreased from 374.6 ± 90.6 μm to 263.4 ± 56.9 μm (mean reduction 111.3 μm; 95% CI, 57.3–165.3 μm; p = 0.001), and mean best-corrected visual acuity improved from 0.17 ± 0.11 to 0.10 ± 0.12 logMAR (p = 0.011).
Complete subretinal fluid resolution occurred in 42.9% of eyes (6/14) and partial resolution in 28.6% (4/14), with no eyes experiencing disease worsening or laser-related adverse events.
Photoreceptor outer segment elongation was significantly associated with failure to achieve complete fluid resolution (Fisher exact p = 0.015), whereas shorter symptom duration (p = 0.026) and better baseline visual acuity (p = 0.032) correlated with complete resolution.
