TLR2 deficiency prevents lethal arrhythmias and reduces mortality to 0% after ischemia-reperfusion in mice.
Why the study?
Does toll-like receptor 2 deficiency prevent lethal arrhythmias and mortality after myocardial ischemia and reperfusion in mice?
Does toll-like receptor 2 deficiency prevent lethal arrhythmias and mortality after myocardial ischemia and reperfusion in mice?
Toll-like receptor 2 signaling is a potential therapeutic target for preventing lethal arrhythmias following myocardial ischemia and reperfusion.
TLR2 inhibition merits preclinical testing as an anti-arrhythmic strategy; leaves open translation to human ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Mersmann et al. (2010) studied Myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (n=62). Toll-like receptor 2 deficiency vs. Wild-type (Toll-like receptor 2 expression) was evaluated on Mortality rate. Absence of toll-like receptor 2 signaling prevented lethal arrhythmias and reduced mortality to 0% compared to 51% in wild-type mice after myocardial ischemia and reperfusion.
