Insulin normalizes altered renal IGF-I and IGF-II levels in diabetic rat neonates.
In neonatal rats, experimental diabetes alters the renal IGF/IGFBP system, which is recovered by insulin treatment, suggesting insulin-dependent regulation during this period.

Insulin-dependent renal IGF regulation in diabetic rat neonates is hypothesis-generating; leaves open translation to human pediatric diabetes without clinical data.
Puente et al. (2000) studied Experimental diabetes. Streptozotocin-induced diabetes and insulin treatment vs. Control rats was evaluated on Renal IGF-I and -II and IGFBP-1, -2, and -3 concentration and mRNA expression. Diabetic rat neonates exhibited decreased renal IGF-I and increased IGF-II concentrations, with decreased mRNA expression of both, which were recovered to control values by insulin treatment.
