Radial heterojunction solar cells based on n -type TiO 2 nanorod arrays filled with p -type Cu 2 O films have been prepared. TiO 2 nanorod arrays are synthesized by a hydrothermal reaction. Cu 2 O films are then electrodeposited at the surface of TiO 2 nanorods. The efficiency of the resulting Cu 2 O/TiO 2 nanorod radial heterojunction solar cells is up to 1.25%. Current work demonstrates that nanorod radial heterojunctions are promising structures for photovoltaic application. Electrodeposition may be used for the large-scale fabrication of low-cost solar cells based on nanorod radial heterojunctions.
