Volumetric measurements showed no significant anatomical differences between APOE ε4 carriers and non-carriers at baseline.
Over the follow-up period, APOE ε4 carriers exhibited significantly greater volume loss in total grey matter, bilateral hippocampi, right hippocampal subfields, bilateral parahippocampal gyri, bilateral lingual gyri, and the right lateral orbitofrontal cortex compared to non-carriers.
Accelerated grey matter loss in carriers coincided with significantly greater enlargement of lateral, third, and fourth ventricles, whereas white matter volume trajectories did not differ between groups.
