Key result
Greater cirrhosis severity correlates with QTc prolongation in ECG lead V3.
Why the study?
Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy involves electrophysiological abnormalities such as QT interval prolongation, but the relationship between QTc prolongation and cirrhosis severity was not well defined.
Does corrected QT interval prolongation correlate with the severity of cirrhosis?
Observational
Does corrected QT interval prolongation correlate with the severity of cirrhosis?
p-value: p=0.039
QTc interval prolongation, particularly in lead V3, correlates with the severity of cirrhosis and is proposed as a potential criterion for prioritizing liver transplantation.
QTc prolongation in cirrhosis may warrant monitoring; leaves open whether it predicts outcomes or guides therapy.
BACKGROUND: Cirrhosis as the final stage of progressive fibrosis of liver can affect other organs such as lungs, kidneys and heart. "Cirrhotic cardiomyopathy" involves the electrophysiological abnormalities such as QT interval prolongation. We assessed correlation between corrected QT interval prolongation and severity of cirrhosis based on Child Classification in each ECG lead. METHODS: ). To analyze the data, the software SPSS Version 16 and Mann-Whitney, Pearson's chisquare test-Kruskal-Wallis, and t-tests were used. RESULTS: in lead V3 (p=0.039) between Child Classification. CONCLUSIONS: Cirrhosis can induce QTc interval prolongation. Lead V3 has statistically significant correlation with the severity of cirrhosis based on child classification. We propose that QT interval prolongation be added as a criterion for prioritizing liver transplantation.

Hajiaghamohammadi et al. (2018) conducted an observational in Cirrhosis. Severity of cirrhosis (Child Classification) was evaluated on Correlation between corrected QT interval prolongation and severity of cirrhosis in each ECG lead (p=0.039). Severity of cirrhosis based on Child Classification was significantly correlated with QTc interval prolongation in ECG lead V3 (p=0.039).
